[ARCHIVED] Starkey Park to Host State Little League Tournament This Weekend

VA District 12 Little League Championship

Roanoke County, Virginia. (July 16 – 21, 2015) – Roanoke County's Starkey Park will host the VA District 12 Little League Championship tournament from July 16 -21. This event will bring over 700 visitors to Roanoke County as district winners from around the state come to town this weekend to compete for the Virginia State Championship. The last time a Little League Tournament was in Roanoke County was in 2002.

The Tournament will kick off at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, followed by the opening ceremonies and the parade of teams. The Opening ceremonies and all games will be played on fields 1 and 2 at Starkey Park on Crystal Creek Road (directly behind the South County Library). Parking will be available near Starkey Park Fields 5 and 6 (entrance off Merriman Road) and at Penn Forest Elementary School. Pool Play games will begin Friday, July 17 at 9:30 am. Pool Play will continue on Saturday and Sunday.

The two teams with the best records in each pool will advance to the single elimination round with the Championship game being played on July 21st. The State Champion will represent Virginia at the Tournament of Champions in Greenville, NC on July 31-August 5, 2015. The State Champion will also receive an invitation from the Washington Nationals to be recognized on the field at their home game on September 6, 2015.
