When firefighters first arrived they found a single story ranch style home with smoke and flames coming from the side of the house. Crews from the Cave Spring and Clearbrook stations initially worked inside the home to find and extinguish the source of flames but were evacuated when the fire load in the attic area became too dangerous. Crews then worked outside the home to douse the flames and bring the fire under control.
A woman and her dog lived in the house. Her next-door neighbor knocked on her door to alert her to the fire and helped her out of the house safely. She has family in town who she will stay with. The Red Cross has been called to assist the woman with temporary items such as clothing, medicine, glasses and food.
The woman was checked out by on-scene paramedics and transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons.
Fire investigators are on scene working to determine what caused this fire.
