[ARCHIVED] Afternoon Fire Causes $2500 in Damages

When crews arrived they reported heavy black smoke coming from a business. It took firefighters only moments to extinguish the flames. Crews from the Hollins, North County and Fort Lewis stations along with a Roanoke City crew were on scene.

The Fire Marshal has determined that the fire was caused when a contractor using a torch in the back of the building accidentally sparked lint causing the flames. One of the workers was able to extinguish much of the fire by using a fire extinguisher.

One firefighter was injured and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.
