(Roanoke County, VA - May 26, 2017) - Mike Warner has been named interim director of the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection (RCACP), operated by the City of Roanoke, the Counties of Roanoke and Botetourt, and the Town of Vinton. Current Executive Director David Flagler announced his retirement earlier this month. His last day is June 30.
Warner is a former Chief Deputy Sheriff for the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office and Assistant Chief for the Roanoke County Police Department. Warner served the citizens of Roanoke County for 33 years prior to retiring in 2015. He served in many roles including Corrections, Patrol, Detective, and Special Operations where he was in charge of Animal Control.
Flagler has overseen operations of the RCACP for the last four years. In that time, emphasis has been placed on transitioning animals out of the facility through placement with rescue organizations and adoption, opening a play yard for dogs and constructing a walking trail.
Warner will begin work immediately with Flagler and the staff to ensure continuity of operations at the facility.
