BOTETOURT COUNTY
Beginning Sunday, July 23, through Thursday, July 27, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, the northbound right lane of I-81 from mile marker 150-151 will be closed. The Exit 150 northbound on-ramp will be closed from midnight to 5a.m. July 24 through July 27.
In addition, beginning Monday, July 24, through Thursday, July 27, from 6 p.m. each night to 10 a.m. each morning, a 16-hour extended lane closure is scheduled for the bridge deck overlay over the James River at mile marker 164 to 166. During the extended lane closures, all I-81 northbound lanes will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and traffic will be directed to follow the motorcycle detour routes already in place on I-81 northbound beginning at exit 162. All motorcycles must exit I-81 northbound at Exit 162 and follow the motorcycle detour on Route 11 northbound to re-enter I-81 northbound at Exit 167.
Drivers should expect and are encouraged to use alternate routes when possible to alleviate congestion on I-81. These projects are expected to be completed in fall 2017.
