[ARCHIVED] Mayflower Hills Disc Golf Course Opens Friday, May 11

Roanoke County, Virginia (May 4, 2018) – Roanoke County is pleased to announce the opening of a new disc golf course at Mayflower Hills Park with a ribbon cutting on Friday, May 11 at 2:00 P.M. This facility features 18-holes of purpose built play, through varied and diverse terrain including fields, woodlands and hills. Each hole contains beginner, intermediate and advanced tee boxes and at least two permanent baskets, providing 105 possible course alignments. The course will host its first regional tournament on Saturday, May 12 as 80 players arrive at the park for Mountain Mayhem, a B-Tier competition sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association. Due to the popularity of the new course, the tournament has already filled. Outside of tournament play, the course is open to the public year round, with a requested $3 per player donation to cover course upkeep. The Mayflower Hills Disc Golf Course is a key amenity identified in the Explore Park Adventure Plan, and this ribbon cutting celebrates the first of several new recreation services opening at the park this season. Overnight camping and horseback riding will be coming to Explore Park in the next few months. Mayflower Hills Park is located at 3319 Rutrough Rd. 24014, near Explore Park in Roanoke County. More information including course maps of each hole can be found at www.ExplorePark.org/DiscGolf.
