[ARCHIVED] Bradshaw Residents Advised of Truck Traffic until Repairs to Landfill Tipper are Completed

UPDATED 11-19-18: Update on Landfill Tipper Repairs: All motors for the tipper in need of rebuilding have been assessed for replacement parts. These parts have to be fabricated. As of this morning, RVRA was informed the lead time for fabrication is 5-6 weeks with another week for reassembly of the motors. Then the motors will be shipped back to the landfill and installed. At this time, RVRA is estimating approximately mid-January to get the landfill tipper back in operation.

Repairs that were conducted this past weekend on RVRA's rotary tipper at the Smith Gap Landfill uncovered additional issues that must be resolved in order for the tipper to safely operate. The tipper is used to unload solid waste transported from RVRA's transfer stations to the landfill by rail.

Without an operating tipper, the region's solid waste must be transported by truck for disposal. Initial projections are for the tipper to be down for an extended period of time, possibly a month.

During this period, RVRA will have to place truck traffic on Bradshaw Rd. in order to transport the region's solid waste to the landfill. Trucks will begin today entering and exiting Bradshaw Rd. via U.S. 311. Trucks will not operate during school bus hours.
