[ARCHIVED] Roanoke County's Website Wins Prestigious 2011 Governor's Technology Award

ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (September 27, 2011) – Roanoke County’s website was among several innovative projects honored on Monday at the 2011 Governor's Technology Awards during a lunchtime ceremony at the Commonwealth of Virginia Innovative Technology Symposium (COVITS).

On behalf of Governor Bob McDonnell, Secretary of Technology Jim Duffey and Chief Information Officer Sam Nixon presented the prestigious awards to 24 winners in nine categories. Governor McDonnell addressed the symposium earlier in the day.

Roanoke County’s website won for the category “Online, Not In Line” which recognizes the innovative use of the Web to improve citizen access to and service from governmental entities of any type. This category includes strategies used to improve citizens’ electronic interaction with government; promote availability, usability and/or transparency of information and increase public awareness and adoption of available services.

Now in its 14th year, the Governor's Technology Awards program honors outstanding achievements and recognizes innovative technology initiatives in the public sector throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Entries were judged by an independent panel of Virginia government executives, including representatives of state executive branch and independent entities, localities, the legislature, judiciary and higher education.

Full details about the awards program and a complete list of winners with hyperlinks to executive summaries of honored projects are available on the COVITS website.
