In the event of a local emergency or natural disaster, Roanoke County’s public safety officials will use RoCo Alert to send recorded notifications to home telephones in Roanoke County.
Cellular telephone numbers, email addresses and even VoIP telephone numbers (like Vonage or COX) can be added to receive emergency alerts by visiting our RoCo Alert web page.
Alerts are based on map locations and can be issued for County-wide emergencies or targeted to specific street addresses or neighborhoods. Users of the system can also add multiple locations for alerts, such as a workplace, an elderly parent’s home, or a child’s school.
RoCo Alert is managed by public safety officials and is only used in an emergency, when lives or property may be threatened. Examples of alerts may include local or regional flooding, dangerous wildfires, severe weather notices, boil water notices or evacuation notices.
