[ARCHIVED] Contractor Appreciation Program Recognizes First Project in 2019

Truck Enterprises

(Roanoke County, VA - October 16, 2019) Roanoke County’s Department of Community Development has selected the Truck Enterprises parking lot expansion project, located at 4700 Kenworth Road, as the first recipient in 2019 of the Stormwater Clean Award.

This represents the second time that Bowman Excavating, Inc. has earned the prestigious award. The firm takes its land-disturbing activities seriously by properly installing and maintaining the required erosion and sediment controls and stormwater management measures shown on the approved plan. This helps to minimize the amount of sediment-laden stormwater runoff that leaves the site, thereby reducing impacts to downstream waterways.

Land development in Roanoke County presents difficult challenges in the management of stormwater runoff due to the very steep slopes and highly erodible soils in the region. Because of these challenges, Roanoke County implements a Contractor Appreciation Program to recognize land-disturbing contractors who conduct exemplary work within the County to protect its natural water resources.

Roanoke County inspectors submit candidate projects to a selection committee that meets monthly to evaluate the projects for recognition. Selected projects display a Stormwater Clean Award banner at the project site and are recognized in the department’s newsletter, on the County’s website, and on social media.
