[ARCHIVED] Popular and Hilarious Parenting Blogger Coming to South County!

Julianna Miner

Julianna Miner, creator of the popular parenting blog Rants from Mommyland, will be at South County Library on Monday, November 4 at 6:00pm to discuss her latest book Raising a Screen Smart Kid: Embrace the Good and Avoid the Bad in the Digital Age.

Julianna Miner is an adjunct professor of global and community health at George Mason University. With 20 years’ experience in the field of public health, she has served as the director of social marketing for Alabama’s Department of Public Health and as the strategic planning director of the Fairfax County Health Department. Miner is also the creator of the popular parenting blog Rants from Mommyland, Parents magazine’s funniest blog of 2013, and was named one of Babble’s 10 Best Humor Bloggers. Her articles on parenting, public health, and technology have been featured in The Washington Post. She lives with her husband, three kids, and two ridiculous dogs in the Washington, D.C. suburbs.

Miner draws on research and interviews with kids, educators, and psychologists, for her book. Raising a Screen Smart Kid offers practical advice on how parents can help their children avoid the drawbacks of social media and reap the benefits of the digital age, for example, by using social media and technology to learn and develop life skills through problem solving in online games.

Prior to Miner’s author talk, families are invited to join us for screen-free activities and refreshments. Activities for all ages will be provided and will begin at 5:00pm.
