The Roanoke County Police Department, in conjunction with Chuck E. Cheese (4059 Electric Road), is holding a Touch a Truck event at Chuck E. Cheese on Saturday, November 9 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Proceeds from food sales will benefit C.O.P.S. Camp (Challenging Opportunities for Police and Students).
C.O.P.S. Camp is a week-long camp held at Camp Roanoke every summer for eligible 6th – 8th graders from Roanoke County Public Schools. The activities during C.O.P.S. Camp expose teenagers to the type of work police officers do daily, such as attend court proceedings, evidence collection and knowledge of the law. The activities are led by the School Resource Officers, with assistance from members of the Department's SWAT team and K9 units.
The Police Department’s involvement with the Touch A Truck event at Chuck E. Cheese will include a display of equipment and vehicles, as well as demonstrations by the SWAT team and K9 units. In addition, officers from the Bike Response Team, Animal Control Unit, School Resource Officer Unit, and Roanoke County Fire & Rescue will be on hand to display their vehicles and equipment. Parks, Recreation & Tourism staff will also be on hand to share information about Camp Roanoke.
