[ARCHIVED] Multiple Vehicle Crash on Catawba Valley Dr

UPDATE (05/20/2020) - On Tuesday May 19, 2020, a Jeep SUV driven by Heather Jones was traveling northbound on Catawba Valley Dr. in Roanoke County. A Mini Cooper driven by Jerry Broughman was traveling southbound on Catawba Valley Dr. The Jeep crossed the double yellow line and struck the Mini Cooper head on. All occupants were wearing their seat belts. The driver of the Jeep and two passengers from the Mini Cooper were transported to the hospital. Mr. Broughman was pronounced dead at the scene. Drugs may have been a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.

UPDATE (3:45 PM) - Roanoke County Police reports that Route 311 / Catawba Valley Drive at Absalom Smith Road is now open.

This is a preliminary report of a multi-vehicle crash with injuries that has occurred in the 2900 block of Catawba Valley Dr in Roanoke County. Injuries have been reported, but the extent and identities of persons involved are not being released at this time. The road is blocked in the area of Catawba Valley Dr / Absalom Smith Rd. Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible until further notice. No further information at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.
