The heavy rains that engulfed the region last week have generated excess wastewater at the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority’s (RVRA) Smith Gap Landfill. Storage tanks constructed and operated to manage the landfill’s wastewater are in danger of exceeding designed capacity. In order to prevent and minimize environmental issues, the Authority has contracted additional hauling services for the removal of the excess wastewater starting Tuesday, May 26th.
These measures will require the daily placement of approximately fifteen (15) truck tanker loads on Bradshaw Rd. and North Fork Rd. in Roanoke and Montgomery Counties. This action is anticipated to take up to five (5) days to complete and possibly more depending on the weather. Additional information is available on the Authority’s website www.rvra.net or by contacting the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority at (540) 857-5050.
