ROANOKE COUNTY, VA (October 28, 2011) – The Roanoke County Sheriff’s Office is collecting used cell phones that will be provided to victims of domestic violence. The program is being administered in partnership with Total Action Against Poverty (TAP).
The Sheriff’s Office chose to kick-off the program in October in recognition of the fact October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Citizens may deliver used cell phones to the jail lobby or give them to any Roanoke County Sheriff’s Deputy. The phones will be cleaned and issued to victims of domestic abuse by TAP’s Domestic Violence Services program. Even non-working phones will be accepted for recycling to help generate cash for the program.
TAP’s Domestic Violence Services program serves the Counties of Botetourt, Craig, and Roanoke and the Cities of Roanoke and Salem.
