(Roanoke County, Va.) Due to railroad bridge failure, Roanoke County has issued a Declaration of Emergency for the Smith Gap Landfill effective November 3, 2020, through December 1, 2020. This timeframe may be reduced or extended depending on need.
The RVRA may utilize secondary access routes, including the use of Bradshaw Road going west towards Montgomery County, to North Fork Road, to Route 460, to Garman Road, in order to transport leachate from the landfill site to an acceptable discharge location.
Effective Monday, November 2, 2020, all commercial vehicles are being routed to the Salem Transfer Station until further notice. This is due to the collapse of the Norfolk Southern bridge the evening of Friday, October 30th near Barley Drive in Roanoke County.
