Roanoke County, VA (December 1, 2011) - The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce named Police Officer II J. Musser as the Chamber’s Police Officer of the Year for 2011 at the organization’s annual meeting held at the Hotel Roanoke
Officer Musser had previously been named the organization's Officer of the Month for August 2011.
In August, POII Musser responded to a trespassing call in the area of Merriman Road where subjects were riding dirt bikes. Musser had earlier been given information about some stolen motorcycles and knew that one of the suspects lived on this road.
Once at the scene, Officer Musser located the suspect and after speaking with the suspect and his mother Musser began to build a case. He located a stolen motorcycle from Bedford County as well as one stolen from Bent Mountain.
Over the next several days, while working with Floyd County investigators, Musser was able to recover even more stolen property. After conducting a thorough investigation, Musser was able to locate items from multiple burglaries that had occurred in Bedford, Floyd and Roanoke counties. Two subjects would eventually be charged with burglary and grand larceny.
