Background Information:
A motor vehicle crash resulting in serious injuries occurred on Thursday, 12/08/2011 at approximately 5:22 pm. The location of the crash was on West Main Street at the intersection of Glenvar Heights Blvd. A 1999 International straight truck driven by 50-year-old Dennis Beheler of Daleville, VA was traveling North on West Main Street in the right hand lane. The International truck then switched lanes to the left hand lane because of construction on the shoulder up ahead. An unknown vehicle then cut off the International truck causing the driver to steer to the left and end up in the South bound lane of West Main Street. The International truck then struck a guardrail in the opposite lane and subsequently struck a 2000 Nissan Xterra that was stopped at a stop sign on Glenvar Heights Blvd. The driver and passenger of the Nissan Xterra were both transported to a local hospital. The driver of the Xterra was identified as 69-year-old Edward Siler; his 63-year-old wife, Janice, was a passenger. Both were seriously injured but survived the crash. The Silers live in the Glenvar area of Roanoke County. The driver of the International truck was not injured. Witnesses on scene described the suspect vehicle as a dark, maybe maroon, Pontiac Grand Prix or Grand Am driven by a white female.
Update:
Since the crash, Roanoke County Police have been following up on leads regarding this case and last night (January 24) an arrest was made. 49-year-old Alice Duff of Roanoke City was arrested on a single charge of reckless driving. Duff was taken before a Roanoke County Magistrate and released on her own recognizance. Police say Duff was driving a red Pontiac Grand Prix and pulled into the path of the International truck on December 8, 2011.
