The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce has selected Officer Brock Newton of the Roanoke County Police Department for the Officer of the Month award for December 2011.
In December, Officer Newton was dispatched to a report of suspicious subjects on Club Lane. While responding to the location, he observed a silver vehicle leaving the area.
Officer Newton stopped the vehicle and during a subsequent search he found a substance that tested positive for cocaine along with numerous other items consisting of electronics, jewelry, coins and clothing.
It was determined that these items were taken during several recent residential burglaries that occurred in both Roanoke County and Roanoke City.
Through his investigative skills this traffic stop led to the clearance of numerous burglaries in the Roanoke Valley.
