The Roanoke County Police Department is asking for the public’s help after receiving a report of a man reaching through an unlocked bedroom window and touching an 8-year-old girl as she slept in her bed.
The child awoke when she felt the man’s hands and began screaming, which drew the attention of her sister. The suspect, who had gotten his upper body through the window, then fled on foot. The incident happened between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. in an apartment at the Villages at Garst Creek. The apartment was on the ground level.
The child reported to police that the man was wearing what appeared to be a dark sweatshirt with a hood. Police are asking residents to please make certain that their windows and doors are locked and to immediately report to police anyone behaving suspiciously. During the course of today’s investigation detectives learned that a man may have tried to enter through another child’s window at the Villages at Garst Creek earlier in the week – that window was locked.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the Police Department at 540-562-3265.
