[ARCHIVED] Fire & Rescue responding to dozens of emergencies

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue has responded to hundreds of calls since the storm hit Roanoke County. The calls received include downed trees and power lines, fire alarms and other assorted calls. The fire alarms have occurred as a result of the power outages. Additonally, there is a small brush fire off of Catawba Valley Drive that crews are not able to fight at this time because of a live downed power line that is believed to have sparked the blaze. The 9-1-1 center has been inundated with calls. We are kindly asking citizens to only call 9-1-1 if they are having or reporting an emergency. As of about 11:20 p.m. crews were responding to about 15 calls for service.
