Saturday, June 30, 2012, 10 p.m.--Roanoke County Fire & Rescue, along with the City of Roanoke and the Roaonke Valley Chapter of the Red Cross will continue to have the cooling shelter open throughout the night at the Roanoke Civic Center's Special Events Center. More than 100 citizens have now visited the shelter throughout the day and many of them will be spending the night there. The may be open again tomorrow if it is needed. Citizens can check back here for continuous updates.
Additionally, Roanoke County offered transportation to the shelter for County residents who had no other way to get there.
Roanoke County Fire & Rescue crews have been at the scene of the Dragon's Tooth trail since about 6 p.m this evening trying to locate and extricate a hiker who is having a medical emergency. Crews have been able to locate the hiker and are now working to bring her off of the trail.
Throughout the day, crews have answered additional calls for wires down and trees down. There continues to be widespread power outages throughout Roanoke County.
