The first arriving units found about a four-acre brush fire with some structures near-by, but none in immediate danger at this time. Over 20 career and volunteer firefighters from the Bent Mountain, Back Creek, Cave Spring, Clearbrook, and Masons Cove stations are currently working to hand dig a containment line along with extinguishing the flames. There is also a crew of three from the Virginia Department of Forestry using a bull dozer to dig a containment line.
Currently, the winds are moving at about 15-20 miles an hour providing concern for the firefighters. Citizens should be aware that once daylight breaks, smoke will likely be seen along the Bent Mountain Road area and even down the Mountain over the Valley.
