The Mount Pleasant Community Plan was adopted by the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors on April 22, 2008, in order to better manage the expected growth in the community due the construction of the Ballyhack golf community, planned expansion of public utilities on Pitzer Road and the area's proximity to Smith Mountain Lake and the City of Roanoke.
The Mount Pleasant Planning Area encompasses approximately 10,000 acres in the southeastern portion of Roanoke County. The Planning Area is situated among mountain ridges, two substantial watercourses,Virginia's Explore Park, the Town of Vinton and the City of Roanoke. Its pastoral landscape, fertile soils and historically low-density development is valuable both as a natural and as a cultural resource.
