2. Register for the Public Safety Academy

   The goal of the Public Safety Academy is to educate citizens so that they can formulate responsible conclusions on public safety activities.

   Participants must be 18 years of age or older and no longer in High School.

   The following will exclude an applicant from participating in the program.

   • conviction of a felony,

   • conviction of a class 1 or 2 misdemeanor (including DUI) within the past five (5) years to include traffic and criminal offenses,

   • four (4) or more moving traffic violations within the past five (5) years,

   • being currently investigated for any crime by any law enforcement agency,

   • being dismissed from employment by any Roanoke County government agency/department,

   • having been disqualified for employment with the Department.

   Academy applications are also available to be picked up in person at the Roanoke County Public Safety Center located at 5925 Cove Road, Roanoke, VA 24019.  In order to do so, you must schedule a time to pick it up with the RCPD Crime Prevention Coordinator by contacting him at 540-777-8651 or crimeprevention@roanokecountyva.gov.
