Recognizing & Encouraging Floodplain Management
The Community Rating System (CRS) is a voluntary program for recognizing and encouraging community floodplain management activities that exceed the minimum standards set up for the National Flood Insurance Program. The CRS does this by adjusting insurance premium rates to reflect the reduced flood risk that are a result of community activities that reduce flood losses, facilitate accurate insurance rating, and promote awareness of flood insurance.
Roanoke County is one of the few communities in Virginia that has applied for / been accepted into the CRS program. Due to the continuing efforts of the administration, every Roanoke County citizen that applies for flood insurance receives a 10% discount on their annual flood insurance premium.
